- Fewer than 700 adult Spoon-billed Sandpipers are believed to remain in the wild, making them critically close to extinction.
- The Spoon-billed Sandpiper is one of the only birds in the world with a spatula-shaped bill. During migration, it can travel over 8,000 kilometers between breeding and wintering sites. Chicks are able to feed themselves almost immediately after hatching.
