- Unlike most fish, spotted pufferfish do not have scales but a tough, leathery skin for added protection.
- Spotted pufferfish can inflate their bodies to nearly double their size when threatened. They possess tetrodotoxin, a powerful neurotoxin, in their organs, making them highly poisonous if eaten. Despite their toxicity, they are sometimes kept in marine aquariums for their charming appearance.
