- Unlike many turtles, Spotted Turtles are excellent climbers and can sometimes be found perched in low shrubs or on tangled vegetation above water.
- Spotted Turtles can recognize individual humans and become accustomed to routine observers. They have a highly varied diet, occasionally enjoying berries and carrion in addition to aquatic invertebrates. During hot summer months, they may enter a state of dormancy called aestivation to avoid the heat.
