- Stag beetles can fly, and males are often seen on warm summer evenings searching for females, despite their large size and heavy mandibles.
- Male stag beetles use their large mandibles to wrestle other males for mates. The larvae can spend up to six years underground feeding on rotting wood. Despite their fearsome appearance, adults rarely eat and are harmless to humans.
