- Some stargazer fish can actually produce electric shocks of up to 50 volts to stun their prey or deter predators.
- Stargazer fish have both venomous spines and, in some species, the ability to generate electric shocks. Their eyes and mouth face upwards, allowing them to ambush prey from beneath the sand. They are sometimes called 'the meanest things in creation' due to their aggressive hunting style.
