- Despite its formidable size, Steller's Sea Eagle sometimes loses its catch to other eagles or even crows due to kleptoparasitism.
- Steller's Sea Eagle has the largest wingspan of any eagle species except the wandering albatross. Its nests, called eyries, are often reused and can reach massive sizes over time. The species is named after the German naturalist Georg Wilhelm Steller, who first described it in 1741.
