- In some cultures, striped hyenas have been tamed and used as beasts of burden or to help guard livestock.
- Striped hyenas have incredibly strong jaws capable of crushing bones, and they mark their territories using a pungent paste from their anal glands. Unlike spotted hyenas, they are less vocal and communicate through body language and scent marking.
