Sugar Glider
Petaurus breviceps

Did you know?
- Despite their name and appearance, Sugar Gliders are not related to flying squirrels, but are marsupials, carrying their young in a pouch.
- Sugar gliders bite grooves into bark to make sap flow, then return to the same wounds night after night like a tapped tree. The dominant male has a bald patch on his forehead, which is a scent gland he rubs on every member of the group. They can drop into torpor to save energy on cold nights, waking sluggish and cold to the touch. What used to be called one species turned out in 2020 to be at least three, meaning many pet "sugar gliders" are of uncertain species.
