- Despite their small size, Sun Bears have an incredibly strong bite, capable of breaking open hard tropical nuts and tearing apart termite nests.
- Sun bears possess an extraordinary long tongue, measuring up to 20-25 cm (8-10 in), which they use adeptly to extract honey and insects from crevices, earning them the nickname 'honey bear.' Unlike most other bears, the sun bear does not hibernate, a trait linked to its tropical environment where food is available year-round. Surprisingly, despite their relatively small size, sun bears have a bite force index similar to that of the much larger American black bear, a testament to their powerful jaws designed for cracking open hard nuts and seeds. Contrary to the common belief that all bears are primarily carnivorous, the sun bear's diet is largely omnivorous, consisting mainly of fruits, seeds, and insects, reflecting its adaptability to the diverse resources of its forest habitat.
