- Despite their showy displays, Superb Lyrebirds are extremely shy and elusive, making them challenging to observe in the wild.
- It mimics chainsaws, camera shutters and car alarms as convincingly as it mimics other birds. A displaying male imitates the alarm calls of a mobbing flock during courtship — apparently to make the female freeze and stay. Its repertoire is learned and passed culturally between generations, not inherited. It barely flies, and spends its life on the forest floor.
