- Tasmanian Devils are susceptible to a unique, contagious cancer called Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), which has decimated wild populations by over 80%.
- Despite their fierce reputation, Tasmanian devils are not dangerous to humans unless provoked. They play a critical ecological role as scavengers, helping to maintain the balance by consuming carcasses and reducing the spread of disease. The species is currently threatened by a contagious cancer known as Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), which has decimated populations by over 80% in some areas. In a fascinating twist of evolution, some devils have developed partial immunity to DFTD, offering hope for the species' recovery.
