- Unlike most mustelids, Tayras are active during the day and have even been observed using tools to obtain food.
- Tayras are known to cache unripe fruit and return later after it has ripened. They can emit a sharp, barking call when alarmed or communicating. Despite their weasel-like appearance, Tayras are excellent climbers and spend much of their lives in the forest canopy.
