Did you know?
- Unlike most mustelids, Tayras are active during the day and have even been observed using tools to obtain food.
- Tayras have been observed picking unripe plantains, hiding them, and returning when they have ripened, which would make them one of the very few non-primates known to plan for a future need. They can rotate their hind ankles and run down a tree trunk head-first. They are frequent raiders of beehives and appear largely indifferent to the stings. Despite being a weasel relative, the tayra is entirely at ease in the canopy and is one of the most arboreal mustelids alive.
