- Despite living its whole life in total darkness, the Texas Blind Salamander can sense subtle water movements to find prey such as small crustaceans and snails.
- The Texas Blind Salamander is one of the few amphibians that spends its entire life in the larval stage, a condition called neoteny. It is completely blind and uses specialized sensory organs to navigate and hunt in pitch-black environments.
