- Some Three-toed Box Turtles have been documented to live over 50 years in the wild, making them one of the longest-lived reptiles in North America.
- Three-toed Box Turtles can completely close their shell using a hinged plastron, making them nearly impervious to predators. They are known for their homing instinct, often attempting to return to their original territory if relocated. During periods of extreme heat or drought, they may burrow underground to escape harsh conditions.
