- Unlike most marsupials, both male and female Thylacines had a pouch; the male's pouch protected its external reproductive organs.
- The Thylacine was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modern times. Its jaw could open to an angle of 80 degrees, much wider than that of any dog or wolf. Despite its extinction status, there have been numerous unconfirmed sightings and ongoing interest in potential de-extinction efforts.
