- Tibetan Terriers are sometimes referred to as the 'Holy Dogs of Tibet' and were traditionally kept in Tibetan monasteries as both companions and good luck charms.
- Tibetan Terriers are considered 'luck bringers' in their native land and were often never sold, only given as gifts. Their snowshoe-like feet are specially adapted for traversing snowy and rocky Himalayan terrain. Despite their name, they are not classified as true terriers by kennel clubs.
