- Tosa Inus are banned or restricted in several countries due to their history as fighting dogs and their imposing size.
- The Tosa Inu is the only dog breed still legally used in Japanese dog fighting, though the sport is now much less common and regulated. Despite its intimidating appearance, the Tosa is known for being quiet and rarely barking. It is sometimes called the 'Sumo wrestler of the dog world' due to its strength and stoic nature.
