- Unlike most birds, the Turquoise-browed Motmot's tail feathers naturally lose barbs near the tip, giving them their unique racket shape without the bird needing to preen them into form.
- Turquoise-browed Motmots excavate nesting tunnels in earthen banks, sometimes up to 2 meters deep. Their distinctive tail-wagging display is thought to deter predators by signaling alertness. They are the national bird of both El Salvador and Nicaragua.
