- Despite their impressive camouflage, Uroplatus leaf-tailed geckos are sometimes detected by predators due to their reflective eyes, which can shine in torchlight at night.
- The Uroplatus leaf-tailed gecko can flatten its body against tree bark and open its mouth wide to reveal a red interior as a defensive display. Its toes have specialized pads that allow it to grip smooth surfaces, and the tail can be shed to escape predators. This gecko is almost invisible when still, thanks to its cryptic appearance.
