- The vampire tetraβs lower fangs can grow so long they extend past its jaw, earning it a reputation as one of the most intimidating freshwater fish in the world.
- The vampire tetra's fangs are so long they actually fit into special grooves in its upper jaw. This species is sometimes called the 'water wolf' due to its aggressive hunting style. Unlike the fictional vampires, the vampire tetra does not drink blood but uses its teeth to catch and eat other fish.
