- Despite their size and ornate appearance, Victoria Crowned Pigeons can produce loud, clapping sounds with their wings when taking off to startle predators.
- Victoria Crowned Pigeons are one of only three crowned pigeon species, all native to New Guinea. Unlike most pigeons, they are primarily terrestrial and rarely fly unless alarmed. Their elaborate crest can be raised or lowered and is used in courtship displays.
