- Despite their vivid coloration, Violet-backed Starlings are often overlooked in their natural habitat because females blend in so well with their surroundings.
- Male Violet-backed Starlings display brilliant purple feathers that appear metallic in sunlight. Unlike many starlings, this species exhibits strong sexual dimorphism, with males and females looking markedly different. They sometimes nest in old woodpecker or barbet holes rather than building their own nests.
