Did you know?
- Despite their size and tusks, walruses mainly feed on small, soft-bodied invertebrates, especially clams and other mollusks.
- Walrus tusks can grow up to one meter long and are actually elongated canine teeth. Their sensitive whiskers, called vibrissae, help them detect prey on the dark ocean floor. Unlike most seals, walruses can rotate their hind flippers forward to walk on land.
