- West Highland White Terriers were bred specifically to be white so hunters could easily spot them in the field and not mistake them for foxes.
- Westies have a waterproof double coat that protects them when burrowing underground. Despite their small size, they have a strong prey drive and bold attitude. The breed's all-white coat was selectively bred to distinguish them from quarry during hunts.
