- Despite their fierce appearance when displaying their beard, Western Bearded Dragons are generally calm and gentle when handled by humans.
- Western Bearded Dragons can communicate through body language, such as arm waving and head bobbing. They can change their body color to help regulate their temperature and for camouflage. Their beard, which darkens and expands when threatened, is used both for defense and to assert dominance.
