- Male Western Fence Lizards display vibrant blue patches during mating season to attract females and ward off rivals. Their basking behavior not only regulates their body temperature but also helps them avoid predators. Additionally, their presence reduces the transmission of Lyme disease because the lizard's blood neutralizes the bacteria carried by infected ticks.
