- The largest recorded white sturgeon weighed over 680 kg (1,500 lbs) and measured more than 6 meters (20 feet) long.
- White sturgeon can live past 100 years and reach lengths of nearly 6 metres, making them the largest freshwater fish in North America. They have no teeth and no scales, and they find buried prey by detecting its electric field with sensors on the underside of the snout. A female may not spawn until she is 25 and then only once every several years. Sturgeon are among the oldest surviving lineages of fish, essentially unchanged in body plan since the age of the dinosaurs.
