Did you know?
- Wood Duck ducklings are able to swim and find their own food just hours after hatching, even after leaping from heights of up to 15 meters (50 feet) to the forest floor.
- Wood Ducks are one of the few North American ducks able to nest in trees, and their ducklings are known for leaping from the nest to the ground shortly after hatching. Their scientific name, Aix sponsa, means 'waterbird in bridal dress,' referencing the male's ornate plumage.
