- The Yellow-bellied Sea Snake has the widest distribution of any sea snake, spanning across the entire tropical Indo-Pacific region.
- It is probably the most widely distributed snake in the world, found across two whole oceans, and it never touches land. It drinks only fresh rainwater, from the thin freshwater lens that floats on the sea after a downpour, and can go months dehydrated waiting for rain. It breathes partly through its skin and has a single lung that runs nearly the whole length of its body and doubles as a buoyancy aid. It hunts by hanging motionless at the surface in drifting debris lines, ambushing fish that shelter there.
