- Despite their aquatic lifestyle, hatchlings instinctively head for water immediately after emerging from their nests to escape predators.
- Yellow-Headed Amazon River Turtles can communicate with each other using low-frequency sounds, especially during nesting season. Females travel long distances to find suitable sandy banks for laying eggs, sometimes synchronizing nesting in large groups. Their yellow head spots become more pronounced as they mature.
