- In the wild, yellow tangs can live up to 30 years, far longer than most people expect for such a small fish.
- Yellow tangs can rapidly change color at night, becoming paler with a white lateral stripe. They play an ecological role as 'reef cleaners' by grazing on algae, benefiting the coral environment. Juvenile yellow tangs often use branching corals as shelter from predators.
